PALASTBARTRANSFER IN BERLIN, 2003
F.R.E.D. RUBIN, BERLIN
F.R.E.d. Rubin's sculpture Palastbartransfer has a narrative structure. It is created out of what once existed: recycled. Among the many furnishings of the former East German parliament building that he has dismantled and transformed is one of its circular bars. In his installations and interventions, the supposedly finished historical process that shaped forms and infused symbolic meaning into them is revealed within the objects that it has left behind. The legacy of history has become movement and, relating its story, it turns the wheel of history further: "Rotational Recycling".
