"LIVING ROOM", RESIDENTIAL AND OFFICE BUILDING, 2004
SEIFERT + STÖCKMANN ARCHITEKTEN, FRANKFURT ON MAIN
Previously, the “Zitrone'häusche” (“Lemon House”) had stood at number 15 Kuhgasse, until the new house took its place. In keeping with the regulations of monument conservation the architects adopted the shape and outline of the former building. Saddle roof and walls were evenly coated with an eggshell coloured aluminium layer without roof tiles, gutters or window handles. The walls and roof are perforated by a chessboard pattern of 52 windows built to local custom. The sleeping room upstairs is contained within a box on rails, which can be driven to the outside by means of an electrical motor. Both upper rooms are freely suspended boxes between the gables: The whole house is one space.
